چکیده
Abstract Background Oro‐facial dysfunctions (OFDs; oro‐facial myofunctional disorders) in children and childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) often cause severe problems articulation, chewing, swallowing oral posture. Objectives Pathognomonic symptoms could yet not be identified, but central planning, programming, timing automating oro‐facial, as well other fine motor skills, are assumed to affected. Methods To investigate the nature coordinative deficits OFD CAS, digitomotography was applied. The testing focused on recording frequency, force, rhythm regularity index finger including speeded metronome tapping tasks. 25 with (7 girls 18 boys, age 7.9 ± 2.3) 5 CAS (0 7.6 2.3), 31 healthy controls (12 19 9.3 2.2) were tested. Statistical significance accepted at α = 0.05. ANOVA test, non‐parametric Mann‐Whitney U Kruskal‐Wallis test Spearman's rank correlation coefficient used. Results Cross‐sectional data revealed consistent significant differences between concerning tapping. Individuals showed particularly low results. Tapping results correlated disease burden. Conclusion These findings support that underlying superordinated sensorimotor exist. This may help phenotyping influence diagnostical therapeutical approaches.

Objective: The purpose of this editorial is to alert otolaryngologists to Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) and their primary causes of airway interferences and allergies. An understanding of the variety of OMDs should facilitate improved communications between otolaryngologists and orofacial myologists. Method: OMDs are identified, and the dental alignment and other consequences of OMDs...
